Qatar Telecom German Open (Berlin)

Main Draw

Li Na

Henin-bye
Bardina-Malek
Zheng-Camerin
Kirilenko-Li

(Q)Ondraskova vs Hantuchova
Peng-(Q)Petkovic
Rezai-Medina G
bye-Jankovic

Someone on wtaworld.com said that this draw is horrible for the Chinese women. It's hard to argue with that assessment. Zheng could make it past Camerin. But Li is going to be in a dog fight with Kirilenko who needs this win just as much as she does. If both Li and Zheng win one knocks the other off to win a chance at Justine Henin who is playing very well right now.
Peng has a chance against the Qualifier Petkovic but would then have to get past Hantuchova to face Jankovic.
I like Jelena against Daniela. But once again Jelena would come face to face with Justine who seems to bring out the worst in her.

Henin wins this part of the draw.

Svetlana Kuznetsova

Kuznetsova-bye
Bammer-(Q)Roesch
Daniilidou-Mueller
Groenefeld-Peer

Dementieva-Santangelo
Shaughnessy-Garbin
Lisicki-Bremond
bye-Petrova

Svetlana Kuznetsova beat Venus Williams in Warsaw and then played one of the worst matches I've ever seen her play against Alona Bondarenko. Commentator Chanda Rubin said Kuznetsova was battling fatigue but it looked like she thought she'd breeze by Alona who came to play and did. That said I see her having to fight past Bammer in order to meet Pe'er. That match would be a toss up in my opinion with the edge going to Pe'er who comes into this event well rested.

Elena Dementieva, when she's on, is dangerous. She's coming back from injury and has to face Mara Santangelo another player who when she is on can wreak havoc with a draw. The winner of that match will face Nadia Petrova who is not playing all that well right now but should get past either Lisicki or Bremond. I'd like to see the two Russian women play each other and that could happen.

Martina Hingis

Vaidisova-bye
Schiavone-A. Bondarenko
Likhovtseva –Loit
Granville-Ivanovic

Schnyder-Vinci
(Q)Voskoboeva vs (Q)Ruano Pascual
Kanepi vs (Q)K.Bondarenko
bye-Hingis

Before this weekend it would have been easy to say no one in their section can stop Ana Ivanovic from having to play Nicole Vaidisova. Based on her steady performance in Warsaw it'll be interesting to see if Alona Bondarenko can keep it up against the big girls. Schiavone, if she's ready, can cause her problems but I'm going out on a limb and pick Alona Bondarenko to be the woman facing Nicole Vaidisova.
Ana Ivanovic has a some what easier task facing her. Who she will face is a question mark.
Whoever wins between Ivanovic, Bondarenko and Vaidisova will be facing Martina Hingis. I just don't see anyone causing Martina problems and that includes Patty Schnyder. I'd love to see Hingis vs either Ana or Nicole (or Alona).

Hingis

Amelie Mauresmo

Safina-bye
Domiguez L-Vesnina
(Q)Savchuk vs Safarova
Stosur-Chakvetadze

Srebotnik-Tu
Pennetta-Vakulenko
(Q)Yan vs Barrois
bye-Mauresmo

If Dinara Safina comes to play she'll be facing either Lucie Safarova or Anna Chakvetadze. I'm still not impressed with Chakvetadze so I'll give the edge to Safarova. Again it depends on which Dinara shows up but I'll give her the edge. The woman who fought her way back from 5-1 down is still in there somewhere.

Amelie Mauresmo is coming back from emergency surgery and it looks like they tried to toss her a softball here. Another Chinese woman qualified to play Barrois. Whoever wins will face Amelie. I see Pennetta having to face Srebotnik. Flavia hasn't had a great year so far and Katerina is also struggling a little. If Amelie makes it through she'll be facing someone who has fought hard to earn the right to face her. I'm saying it'll be Dinara but I don't count Safarova out.
