Tennis Talk

by Savannah

No the wind didn't do it. Gremlins didn't sneak on court and do the dastardly deed. None other than Roger Federer himself smashed his precious Wilson racquet to smithereens when it became apparent that he was going to lose his match. It didn't happen then, Novak Djokovic needed a few more games to finish Roger off but it was clear to everyone, even the cheering crowd (including a very nervous and upset Mirka) that Roger wasn't going to win today.

I am not a Roger fan. I'm sure you know that some part of this fangirl is gleeful that Roger lost. But it's how he lost that was stunning. Novak didn't have the cojones to feed him a bagel but I'm sure many of us thought it was coming. In fact Novak took control of the match when he was 5-1 down in the first. Novak played well today and that is all there is to say.

Federer has special exempted himself out of Monte Carlo so he won't play for a couple of weeks at the least.

There is another match tonight. If the Final isn't Djokovic vs Murray I'll be very very surprised.

Please tell me you are joking about the special exempting out of Monte Carlo, right?

I'm not sG. He's not the only one. Here is the full list of players who are not treating Monte Carlo as a mandatory under the tournament's new status.

Federer, Roger SUI 2
Roddick, Andy USA 7
Tsonga, Jo-Wilfried FRA 11
Blake, James USA 13
Gonzalez, Fernando CHI 17
Fish, Mardy USA 20
Tursunov, Dmitry RUS 27

I was shocked. I wrote off Novak due to day match and heat, humidity, etc. I wrote him off during Tsonga too. I have no idea now against Murray.

So, they're getting a big fat irremovable goose egg, right? Right?! A fine? Something?!

I don't think so sG. Monte Carlo's new status allows this I believe.
