Sharapova Out of U.S. Open With Shoulder Injury
(Reuters) - Third seeded Maria Sharapova has pulled out of next week's U.S. Open due to a shoulder injury, tournament organizers said on Wednesday.

"Maria has informed us that she will be unable to compete at the US Open this year due to a right shoulder bursitis and has withdrawn from the tournament," tournament director David Brewer said in a statement.

"We wish her a speedy recovery and look forward to her return to New York next year."

I'm not a Sharapova fan, but obviously this is a tough spot for her - hopefully she'll heal up.

What really interests me is that where before I had thought her crappy serving of late was a mental issue, now it seems like it has been a physical issue. In a weird way that is good news - with good care & rest she can hopefully heal her shoulder, whereas a mental block for a particular stroke seems so much harder to get over.
