A Postscript
I hope people are taking the time to read through the results of the Zonal Ties. It’s very educational to see that countries like El Salvador, Cuba, the Netherlands Antilles and the Dominican Republic as well as non powerhouse countries in South America like Uruguay and Paraguay and non Arab countries like Nigeria on the African continent are fielding Davis Cup teams.
It’s easy for the top players to whine and complain about the inconvenience of Davis Cup and while I don’t think these men should be called unpatriotic I do think they do a disservice to the men who are playing basically for the love of the game. Many of them never get their names in the big time tennis press or their faces on magazines with world wide circulation. Many of them don’t have multi million dollar clothing deals or their names on their sneakers. But come Davis Cup time they come out and play to the best of their abilities.
If it takes giving rankings points to stop the whining so be it. But I don’t think Davis Cup needs to be scrapped. Fine tuned, yes. Scrapped no. The needs of the top players are different from those of lower or unranked players and need to be taken into account when scheduling Davis Cup play.
Congratulations to the players at all levels of Davis Cup. I hope tennis fans from non sexy countries struggling to stay competitive don’t have to start their postings on fan boards the way one fan did by saying “I know no one cares about this tie but…”

Excellent job, Savannah. Thanks for posting all these ties and finding pictures to go with them.
It's amazing what you can learn just by looking at these players and their results.
Thanks!
Ummm, I see I come from a sexy country :)
