She had on no bling, not even earrings IIRC. All she wore was that "I've got your name in my book already" expression and proceeded to play one of the best women's matches ever against Lindsay in that final. Some say that match was the last great women's match played.

Craig, I don't know what Serena's major maladjustment was in Paris. She just didn't look right. You could be right about her reason for not playing up to her usual standard, I don't know. I am happy to see that she and her sister are on opposite sides of the draw for once and that they're playing doubles.

Karen I never get involved in the pools. I like to enjoy my tennis and take the surprises in stride without obsessing about how I'm doing in a contest.

I agree. May the best two players over the next two weeks win. No hand jive, no out of sync Hawkeye, and if the ESPN crew vexes me no sound on the television.

As you know I'm a clay court fan. I'm still not adjusted to playing in the grass yet. I will be by the second week.Savannahhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15079111598976360942noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-757702474597183495.post-40075614619219002722007-06-23T14:27:00.000-05:002007-06-23T14:27:00.000-05:00"They're serving you a slice of cake almost as big..."They're serving you a slice of cake almost as big as Maria's. Eat it."

Priceless.

Other than the Safarova/Venus/AnnaC/NikkiV/PattyS switcheroos, this draw looks alarmingly like the Paris draw.

How boring for us. Different surface, yes, which will probably mean different results on the rematches, but c'mon.

I'm of those who thinks Serena doesn't believe she can beat Justine on clay. If you don't buy that, I'm cool. But what do you think cause her to not show up for the match?

I think Amelie's run at Eastbourne could be a good sign for her heading into Wimby. She often plays like crap in lead ups and then advances to the final weekend of a Slam. (Or wins.) She needed all her matches at Eastbourne to test her body before Wimby, and her play was brilliant, if spotty and nervy when it really mattered.

Last year, she lost early in Eastbourne and almost withdrew from Wimbledon. The rest is history.

Her draw is cake and she should make the semfinals if she eats it. If she faces Maria, I like her chances. Venus, not so sure.

I think both sisters will do well since they're playing doubles and since they're in opposite halves of the draw.

It's not at all likely, but I wouldn't be surprised with a repeat of 2002/2003.Craig Hickmanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17336837289054015211noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-757702474597183495.post-77621331185976106552007-06-23T11:23:00.000-05:002007-06-23T11:23:00.000-05:00Savannah, love it love it love it. Are you saying that if she is looking good off court that means she will not do well on the court. Enquiriing minds want to know. I have made up my mind not to join any suicide pools, not to make any predictions, not to cheer for my faves. I am just going to sit back and enjoy some wonderful tennis on the green lawns of Wimbledon and may the best lady and gentleman prevail.Overhead Spinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13838462340734632101noreply@blogger.com
